Palestinian terrorists have launched about a thousand homemade Qassam (or Kassam) rockets at Sderot and other towns and Kibbutzim around Gaza since 2001. The rockets keep getting larger and more lethal. The current version has a range of 10 km and carries a payload of 10 KG of explosives.
Yasser Arafat insisted that Qassam rockets are harmless.

The rockets have killed nine people and wounded many others. They have also done a great deal of property damage.|

The constant rain of rockets makes normal life close to impossible. Warnings and military demonstrations did not stop the rocket blitz. The international community did nothing. A demonstration against the rockets was interrupted by a Kassam rocket.
