Why should there be a state for a religion? |
| home |
In French: Sionisme et l'Israel : Questions et réponses (FAQ)
Why should there be a state for a religion?Judaism is not just a religion, though anti-Zionists may claim that it is. A large percentage of Jews are atheists or agnostic, including most of the founders of Israel and many of the founders of the Zionist movement. The identity of each person and each group is determined by the people in that group. It is not the prerogative of anti-Zionists and racists to determine the definition of Judaism. It is up to members of the Jewish nation. It is peculiar that the people who object to Israel as the state of a religion, do not object to the constitutions of surrounding Arab countries, which proclaim Islamic law to be the law of the land, and Islam to be the religion of the country. This includes Iraq under the current US-inspired constitution. These people also object to the Jewish star in our flag, a national symbol, but nobody points out that several European countries (including Switzerland) have crosses in their flags. Ami Isseroff |
